Ellie Haga is a contemporary of anthropomorphic abstraction. She has worked in the field of sculpture for some forty years while pursuing the historical line of expression by modernists like Miro, Moore and Brancusi. Her work has been concerned with getting at the essence of figurative form and gesture. Beauty, as she has come to know it, is a system of proportions and color, a construct that is continually redefined and reduced to its simplest form. The continuity between the new and the old, the inside and the outside and its growth are part of her ongoing experimentation with form. The work provokes a visceral reaction that demands the participation of the senses.
